  • What makes New Mexico wines so unique?
    lunarossa_whites

Beginning in the early 1500's, the first Spanish explorers and settlers transported with them their wine grapes, to eventually plant in the Rio Grande Valley.

By 1633, the vineyards were flourishing as they provided sacramental wine to the mission priests throughout Northern New Mexico.

Wine in New Mexico was abundant, and by 1880, the census data shows that New Mexico was producing 905,000 barrels of wines per year. Then with the advent of prohibition, legal wine production ceased.

In the early 1980s, New Mexico’s wineries have made a resurgence.

Currently, New Mexico’s wine production is flourishing again and is continuing to grow! You will be able to find wineries with their own unique style and high-quality wines in Northern, Central, and Southern New Mexico!

A note from
the producer

Pure beauty that I can portrait through my eyes is what interests me...When I visited New Mexico for the first time years ago I felt the overwhelming energy that nature gives you in this remote part of the world.  My homeland has plenty of beauty (Italy), but the magic that this land conveys is just unique.  I spend hours looking (and filming) the sky, not shy to put up these endless shows...

With this documentary I just wanted to show a little part of that genuine beauty, contoured by the charm of people that make this land so interesting.  I feel everybody should know the “secrets” of this part of the country, everybody should take the time to taste the unique flavors of these places, everybody should know a little bit of the history of a place that first produced wine...

It may not be so sophisticated as other well know parts of the States, but it’s “real” and has a genuine feeling and the quality of the wines shocked me.  After all, I too didn’t know what there was to discover in this almost unknown land.

Now I know a little more, and I offer my love for this land to you.
The best way I could, the most simple and authentic possible way.
